URBAN DECCAN PUB (UDP) CELEBRATES THE SOUL OF UDUPI

Udupi is a town in Karnataka, known for its beautiful beaches, temples, and lip-smacking spicy food.

UDP - Urban Deccan Pub, is a mash-up of traditional South Indian food with an urban touch. Rightly said, UDP celebrates the soul of Udupi, with its own unique twist. Imagine sipping on Ajji's Pickled Whiskey on a breezy terrace overlooking 100 feet road, and nibbling on Dosa Tacos and Chips made of Malabar Paratha, while watching Bangalore's gorgeous sunset. Intrigued much? Hop on to a cab and drive straight to Indiranagar.

You'll find a simple yet modern ambiance that makes room for ample sunlight and breeze. There are planters all around which add a cozy vibe to this place. UDP is a venture by Speciality restaurants (Owners of Mainland China, Hoppipola, Cafe Mezzune amongst hundreds of other restaurants spread across 26 cities in India). Naturally, this restaurant superseded our expectations.

From native dishes at Udupi to dishes from around South India, UDP has created a niche of its own. The menu is eclectic and includes quirky food and drinks. The food menu is divided into Bitings, Short eats, UDP Deli, Chutneys, Kothu, Kari, Rice, and Dessert.

For starters, we tried Bisi Bele Poppers (Crumb fried spiced rice cooked with lentils and stuffed with Cheese), P & P Cutlet (Crumb fried plantain and peanut cutlet), Deccan Paneer Chilli, and Podi Podi Hummus with Paratha Crips (Chickpea dip spiced with homemade chutney powder). As for the mains, we tried Bengaluru Masala Pizza, Sambar Khichdi, and the famous Potli Biryani. We ended our meal with a hearty portion of Elaneer Payasam Pudding. Each dish works perfectly in tandem and delivers a burst of flavors in each bite.

We particularly enjoyed Podi Podi Hummus with Paratha Crisps and the Potli Biryani. We love that UDP celebrates food that we South Indians are so familiar with, yet surprises us with the character it adds to each dish.

The drinks menu, on the other hand, is equally delightful. You'll be amused as you skim through the pages only to find drinks such as Rowdy Rasam (Vodka + Rasam), Vanakkan Kokum (Wine and Kokum), Quickgun Murugun, Coconut Cold Coffee to name a few.

UDP is a great place for a meal and drinks with friends, family or even for some me-time by yourself. Thank you for having us over. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
